Eureka, Montana – Gateway to the North
Welcome to Eureka & Tobacco Valley MT communities!
Eureka is located within the Tobacco Valley in Lincoln County, in the northwestern part of Montana. The Tobacco Valley is situated in a beautiful natural setting, surrounded by forests, lakes, and mountains. It is located near the Canadian border. The Tobacco Valley is home to several popular recreational areas, including Lake Koocanusa and Kootenai National Forest.
The town of Eureka has a rich history that dates back to the late 1800s, when it was founded as a logging town. Today, Eureka is a thriving community that offers a range of amenities and services to residents and visitors. Some of the town's notable attractions and events include:
-
Rendezvous Days: Held the last weekend in April, boasts events that include the parade, black powder shoot, Village Vendors and food trucks, mud bogs, petting zoo, music and much more! Thousands of people converge on the town to partake in the historical celebration of the end of winter and new beginnings as the season changes.
-
Eureka Farmers' Market: This weekly market offers fresh produce, baked goods, and crafts from local vendors from June through September. With over 40 vendors, it provides opportunity to shop the many Montana made or grown products.
-
Lake Koocanusa and our other surrounding lakes and rivers offer recreation year-round including boating, fishing, and camping in quiet and serene natural landscapes. Hiking and biking trails, mountain climbing, berry picking and beautiful scenic drives create a sense of peace and harmony with nature.
-
There is always something to do. Events such as the Amish Auction in June, The Tobacco Valley Rodeo in July, and The Lincoln County Fair and Bull Thing provide fun for the entire family.
- Christmas Tree Capital of the World: This title was given to Eureka in the 1930's, earned by shipping out more trees than any other state and two-thirds of them from right here in the Tobacco Valley. "In 1970 Wyman Schmidt concluded that over 80 million trees had been cut from the Eureka area in the three preceding decades." (The Montana Christmas Tree Store, Daris Flanagan)
The Tobacco Valley offers a unique blend of history, natural beauty, and recreational opportunities that make it a popular destination for visitors and a great place to call home for residents.
